The Thunderbird
The thunderbird is a massive bird, which can eat whales as well as snap trees like twigs. Along with its physical size the Thunderbird represents the natural forces of thunder, lightning and storm. It flaps its wings to make thunder and open and closes its beak and eyes to make lightning. Thunderbirds are very important to some tribes because they protect humans from evil spirits by fighting them off as a result they are very sacred and even are represented as the gods of the sky. 4 thunderbirds guard the nest, which contains the egg, which creates all other thunderbirds. The Algonquin believe that thunderbirds are the ancestors to the human race. On the other hand the Lakota Sioux believe that the thunderbird, Wakan Tanka is the grandson of the Sky Spirit, which created the world and the people on the earth. Although the Water Spirit, Unktehi tried to drown the humans so Wakan Tanka fought Unktehi and launched a lightning bolt into the ground and caused a crack to appear as a result her followers and her drained into the crack.
